💤 You're asleep, dreaming you're awake! 🤔▫️When someone said that, I laughed. I knew they were implying I was asleep to my own problems.▫️And they were right, I just didn't know it at the time. I knew what my symptoms were, but not the cause.▫️Ironically, these symptoms were also causing restless nights and daytime fatigue. I was exhausted! 😴HELP!! 🚨▫️I wanted answers and sought help from a number of different health professionals.▫️I was offered different treatments, medications, and surgery for symptom management and relief.▫️I politely declined most of them. 🔻WAKE UP!! ⏰️▫️Waking up to the realisation that most of my health conditions were a result of dysfunctional breathing was such an unexpected gift.▫️After a few weeks of breathwork exercises and nervous system regulation practices, most of my symptoms had dissipated or gone completely. ❤️🩹▫️This ignited my passion to learn more about my own body and how it functions - and dysfunctions.🔻HELPING! 📖▫️I studied with Campbell Will @breathbodytherapy and became a Functional & Therapeutic Breathwork Practitioner certified by The International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine (IPHM) ▫️Every day is a school day. I'm a member of Campbell's Alumni Community for ongoing learning, guidance, and client support. 🔻WANT HELP? 🫁▫️I use a combination of breath-based exercises, meditation, movement, and play to support people overwhelmed by stress and anxiety to re-establish balance at work and at home.▫️If this interests you, and you want to optimise your health, book a free 15-minute discovery call. Does your life, your mind, feel like constant chaos? There’s always a million things to do and a million things running through your brain?Well there is an anecdote to this constant craziness. It’s Stillness. When you hear that you may think “Grace, I don’t have time to be still.” I understand, I used to feel this way too.But I started practicing mediation and stillness anyway, because I knew that if I was going to help people, I needed to practice what I preached. And here are all of the miraculous benefits I have received from spending some time every day in stillness:1. My anxiety disappeared 2. My sympathetic nervous system is no longer activated when I encounter stressful situations or people 3. I am more patient 4. I am more present and enjoy life immensely 5. I sleep better 6. I have more time to do the things that light me up 7. I am more productive 8. I am more efficientPeople tend to believe they don’t have time for stillness, they don’t have time for stress management. But the paradox is that when you make time to be still, you will be able to accomplish necessary tasks easier and faster.I hope you found today’s Lifestyle Health with Grace tip useful. It’s brought to you by Germond Chiropractic Healthcare and Wellness Center, 109 North Main Street in Bainbridge. Providing spinal care and whole body wellness to the tri-county area for 25 years. Did you know, 𝔸𝕝𝕫𝕙𝕖𝕚𝕞𝕖𝕣’𝕤 𝕚𝕤 𝕟𝕠𝕥 𝕛𝕦𝕤𝕥 𝕒 𝕙𝕖𝕣𝕖𝕕𝕚𝕥𝕒𝕣𝕪 𝕕𝕚𝕤𝕖𝕒𝕤𝕖 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕘𝕖𝕥𝕤 𝕡𝕒𝕤𝕤𝕖𝕕 𝕕𝕠𝕨𝕟?I used to fear getting older because of diseases like Alzheimer’s and dementia. 🧠 To lose my ability to think, be who I am, not know my friends and family around me, get lost on a walk…all those things sounded terrifying. But with what I’ve learned as a practitioner and reading loads of research and books, 𝗜’𝗺 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲.𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝘇𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗿’𝘀. 𝗜 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵.This makes me feel empowered that I can do simple yet effective mindfulness and movement to help stave off these types of debilitating illnesses. If I do my part, I will have no regrets. Research shows that 𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙘 𝙙𝙮𝙨𝙧𝙚𝙜𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙥𝙝𝙮𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨 responses (AKA stress and lack of mindful movement) contribute significantly to increasing the risk of developing dementia and Alzheimer’s. The really good news is that we can do something about it. We can help ourselves. We can practice preventative health just by practicing Mindful Movement. When our patients say they’re “stuck”I hear this a lot in clinic. “I feel stuck” What they mean is that they’ve tried most things which havnt helped them, they’re too scared or afraid to try anything else, it feels too hard to try anything else or move on, they can’t see a future without painMost partients who feel like this are waiting for another intervention normally biomedical to try they wait for an externalLocus of control to help them change or make a change. This is called being emotionally stuck and the following few pointers have helped with my patients to shift their thought process 1. Change comes from within us not externally 2. Change is scary but so is remaining in the same place with no change 3. Being open to new ideas - the old ones havnt worked 4. Start with small changes 5. Explore your purpose and revisit your values 6. Practice small changes. - things take time 7. Relaxation - v underestimated. Take time in the moment and do some mindfulness. 8. Talk to a professional if you ah e unhealthy thoughts. 9. Find your sense of direction. 10. Look at reasons for feeling “stuck” guilt, ashamed, embarrassed, shame, anxious, lack of knowledge, what combination of psychological factors are keeping you where you are.

Have you ever heard certain illnesses or pains referred to as metaphors? For example, back pain signifies a lack of support.Shoulder pain that you are carrying a burden?I’m not for one minute suggesting that all back or shoulder pain, or any other pain or illness, fits this pattern. But try this for size. Many years ago, I shed my skin. Literally. I’d been working super hard. I’d had an infection, and the next thing I knew, the skin on my hands and feet was peeling off. The strange part is, I was literally on the cusp of leaving my existing career, and moving into a brand new one. And as I now appreciate, moving from someone else’s definition of success, into my own creation. In that context, shedding skin seems pretty appropriate. And strange, all the same. Talk about your body keeping score. Has your body or mind every decided to talk to you in such a direct way? And what did you make of it?👋 Hi, I’m Alison 💚 Working with you to reduce pain and stress, so you can increase your resilience and get your life back🧠 Using science and mindfulness-based approaches, providing 121 teaching, group courses, and workplace wellbeing events. In my past life, I would have either poo-pooed resting or told myself I was resting, but relentlessly planning and/or trying to figure out what things about my life I needed to fix. This pattern is a mix of social conditioning and my upbringing. “No rest for the “wicked”, “Buck up and soldier on”. You get the idea.I have asked myself the question “why is being busy, a way of living that we are encouraged to practice ?“ and “where did this start?”Why indeed are we all caught up in looking busy, being busy and if you are not busy you are judged as being not driven enough, aimless and probably lazy. Resting is necessary for emotional and physical health - period. The body needs downtime to rejuvenate energy stores, make the necessary repairs and to bolster the immune system. We Humans are not machines and need to acknowledge the essentialness of self care to a well rounded healthy life. I invite you to nurture yourself with the gift of rest. Not planning, not scrolling on the phone, just practicing holding space for all of you with gentle compassion. You are worth it. And yes, I now regularly practice the “art of rest” and savour it.#somaticexperiencingkelowna #somaticresilienceandregulation #somatictherapy #transformingtouch #somatictherapist #internalfamilysystemstherapy #developmentaltrauma #stopmoving #theartofrest #slowdown #cptsdhealing #anxietysupport #polyvagaltheory #griefsupport #womenempoweringwomen #nervousystemhealing

Are you having a laugh? 🤔▫️They say laughter is the best medicine. Here’s why! 🔻▫️When we laugh, our bodies release stress relieving hormones, which naturally promote an overall sense of happiness and can temporarily relieve pain.▫️Laughing swaps the cortisol in our bloodstream with highly sought-after chemicals in the brain - dopamine, oxytocin, and endorphins. 🤯🌬 Laughter enhances our respiratory system by deepening our breaths, which in turn oxygenates our blood, relaxes muscles, and stabilises blood pressure.▫️It’s a natural, therapeutic tool that supports nervous system regulation, fostering resilience against stress and anxiety. ⚓️▫️Laughter and playfulness engage the parasympathetic nervous system, the calming playmate to our fight-flight-or-freeze response.▫️This activation helps down-regulate the sympathetic nervous system, reducing stress and allowing our bodies to enter a state of balance and restoration.🔻▫️My name is Paul French. I am an IPHM certified Functional & Therapeutic Breathwork Practitioner and Meditation Facilitator.▫️I use a combination of breath-based exercises, meditation, movement, and play to support people overwhelmed by stress and anxiety to re-establish balance in work and at home.▫️If this interests you, and you want to optimise your health, book in for a discovery call. Sunday morning walk thoughts 💭 You have 3 main cups in life which you’re responsible for keeping full So stop emptying them by NOT exercising. As a neurodivergent adult, exercise is so vital to improving the quality of our lives. If you aren’t regularly exercising, you’re emptying your 3 cups of life. Health ☕️ Family ☕️ Work ☕️ How does regular exercise fill your cups?🔋 Better sleep 🔋 More energy 😁 More patience 😁 Promoted positive thinking 🤔 Better cognitive function 🧠 Better concentration and focus 🧠 Less brain fog, anxiety and stress ❤️ Better cardiovascular health 💪🏼 Stronger bones 💪🏼 Stronger immune system 🚶♂️ Improves your range of movement 🕺 Can encourage socialising and sex drive ❤️ Reduce all cause mortality by up to 33%!All of which contribute to looking after your health, family and work. This is a method I use with my neurodivergent coaching clients around the world to help keep us on track. Because motivation comes and goes, you know that. But by having 3 cups that you are responsible for helps keeps us accountable. And knowing your health, family and work all need you to be fit, healthy and strong will build discipline to keep going. We've all heard the saying that laughter is the best medicine...that it could add years to your life. Well, did you know that laughter and amusement are powerful tools in your self-care toolkit? It's true! According to research from the Mayo Clinic, laughter not only feels good but also has tangible health benefits. My clients are enjoying a new aspect to our sessions. I have a deck of self-care cards, and I pull from them randomly and use them for reflection and for action. I was excited to see that today’s card in one of my sessions was centered on the power of amusement. As you know, that is one of the 10 positive emotions that positive psychology says can undo a negative mood or thought. It is also good to relieve stress, and my clients face so much.Laughter can help relieve stress, boost your mood, and even improve your immune system! So why not make amusement a priority in your self-care routine?Take time to do things that bring a smile to your face and a giggle to your lips. Whether it's watching a funny movie, spending time with loved ones, or indulging in a hobby that brings you joy, prioritize activities that make you laugh and feel light-hearted. Life is too short not to find amusement in the little moments! Remember, self-care isn't just about pampering yourself; it's about nurturing your mind, body, and soul. And what better way to do that than by embracing the power of amusement? So go ahead, laugh a little louder, smile a little wider, and let the joy of amusement fuel your life and leadership. You deserve a big one. #SelfCare #LaughterIsTheBestMedicine #AmusementTherapy #JoyfulLiving #PositiveEmotion
